Release of the Day: Hank Wood & the Hammerheads - Stay Home

I don't care if this is the second Katorga Works record this week, it's really damn good. Hank Wood & the Hammerheads are a punk band from New York that released their first 7" in 2011, but put out their first LP Go Home in 2012. On their new record Stay Home, there are more elements of cowpunk in addition to the hardcore tradition they come from, like the Gun Club at their most furious. There's not a ton out there about this band and I haven't seen them play live yet. To be frank, my friend Jes told me about them only a few months ago, but you can be sure that I have listened to both of their records Go Home and Stay Home a lot. This record is more straightforward. It doesn't let up. But there are more pronounced Western (as in the movie genre not the geographical description) elements to the mix. Lots more cowbell.

Don't get me wrong, though, this record is as ruthless as their live show and features some dynamite, catchy hooks, which makes this perhaps the best place to start getting to know the band. And people are getting REALLY into them - just look at that video above. People are climbing on ceilings (low ones) and walls to get closest to the band. They've struck a chord methinks!

This record is currently sold out on the Katorga Works page, but they say that new copies of the 1st press will be back online on September 9, which gives you only a few days to think it over! Pinch those pennies, though, because this is definitely one of the more memorable records from the year. Check out this song on Soundcloud too while we're at it - I actually just learned how to do this and am super pumped. This is a gamechanger, ladies and gentlemen.
